“Recent media reports regarding a possible link between vaping and lung illness is something that we’ve been paying attention to. Our primary distributor, Vapor Beast/Turning Point Brands, released this statement today: “Early research and data provided by Turning Point Brands scientists, as well as from the FDA and other public health entities, indicates that many of these recent tragic deaths are linked to the consumption of black market and/or adulterated THC cartridges. It is speculated, yet not fully confirmed, that a molecule called Vitamin E Acetate has been responsible for the adverse health outcomes reported in many of the cases. Vitamin E Acetate can be formed when Vitamin E and Acidic Acid are present in formulas that has a pH value below 4.8. Our preliminary analysis shows that legitimate nicotine vaping products do not contain Vitamin E Acetate and do not have pH values below 4.8.””
"FDA also issued warnings regarding the lung illness outbreak in which it stated very clearly that in order for your own protection, you should steer clear of THC containing vaping products and any products NOT purchased from a vaping retailer. Quoting that article directly, FDA states "However, in the interim, we encourage consumers to help protect themselves and avoid buying vaping products of any kind on the street, and to refrain from using THC oil or modifying/adding any substances to products purchased in stores.""
“Carolina Vapor Mill would also like to make it clear to everyone that the recent proposal by the Trump administration to possibly ban flavors for nicotine-containing e-liquids has absolutely nothing to do with the reports of these lung illnesses. These are two separate issues with their lines becoming blurred in the media and among many consumers. The mention by President Trump’s administration of a possible ban on flavored e-liquid was the result of a new report on Wednesday in which the Survey of Youth Tobacco Use showed that the use of vaping products by America’s youth continues to rise. While we agree with the administration as well as any parent in America on the idea that we don’t want any kids using vaping products, we do believe there are better and more effective ways to achieve the desired decline in underage use without an all-out prohibition of an adult-oriented product. Our belief is that the passage of Tobacco 21 would help in this regard by eliminating situations where some high school students are old enough to purchase these products and in turn give them to their still underage friends or classmates. Further, we know from past experiences that prohibition doesn’t work. In fact, going back to the THC related illnesses mentioned above, many of those cases have happened in states where THC or marijuana in any form is prohibited, yet these folks still acquired and used the products. Banning flavored e-liquids will lead to not only many adults going back to smoking conventional combustible tobacco but also, by FDA’s own admission, a multi-million dollar black market for e-liquids. This black market would be no different than the one causing the THC-related illness outbreak we’re seeing now. We firmly believe that American adults who are looking to stop smoking cancer-causing, combustible cigarettes should have option to vape e-liquids flavored with more than just tobacco. E-liquids flavored with something other than tobacco flavoring have proven more successful for most e-cigarette users.”

From the GoFundMe page:
"On June 29th, 2018, Mike Bingham was enjoying a beautiful weekend ride through North Carolina mountains with close friends. Though an experienced and responsible rider, Mike lost control of his motorcycle and plummeted nearly 70 feet off the side of a mountain. Through quick actions of his fellow riders, Mike was stabilized and subsequently airlifted to the closest trauma facility.
Mike has sustained serious injuries to include several broken ribs, severe trauma to the brain, extensive nerve and muscular damage to his right arm, and a severe laceration to his left shoulder. His breathing is aided by a ventilator and the long term extent of any permanent brain or nerve damage is yet unknown.
What IS known, however, is that Mike is an extremely hard working man who provides for his family which includes his loving wife, Liz, two daughters and a son. The road to recovery for Mike will be long and arduous and, without his income, his family will be left in a significant financial crisis.
We all have our own concerns and worries, however, let's all do what we can to help this cause, secure in the knowledge that in times of need, Mike and his family have been, and will continue to be there for any of us found in the same unexpected predicament."
From The Daily Times:
"A South Carolina man was in critical condition Saturday after crashing his motorcycle on the portion of Calderwood Highway known as “The Dragon” one day before.
Staff at the University of Tennessee Medical Center said 38-year-old Michael Bingham, of Belton, was in critical, but stable, condition.
Bingham was operating a Yamaha motorcycle at mile marker 4 when he lost control, traveled into the oncoming lane and went off the road, according to a preliminary crash report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
Bingham was flown by Lifestar helicopter to UT Medical Center.
The crash occurred around 3:50 p.m. Friday.
Blount County Rescue Squad Public Information Officer Laura Osgood said the motorcyclist landed between 40 and 60 feet down an embankment. He was wearing a motorcycle helmet, according to the crash report.
Squad members worked with the Blount County Fire Department and AMR ambulance personnel to package him, pull him back up to the roadway and take him to a Lifestar helicopter.
“County fire deployed their rope system and the squad and the medic units attended to the patient and provided medical care,” Osgood said."

The report from PHE says that vaping is of negligible risk to bystanders and is at least 95 percent less harmful. The report went on to say that there was much public misunderstanding about nicotine and that fewer than 10 percent of adults understand that the vast majority of harms from smoking are not cause by nicotine.
"It would be tragic if thousands of smokers who could quit with the help of an e-cigarette are being put off due to false fears about their safety" says John Newton, a professor and director for health improvement at PHE.
This new report hits right after a U.S. National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine report on e-cigs. This report summarized data from hundreds of scientific studies and also said that e-cigs are likely to be far less harmful than tobacco.
"The greatest quit success is among those who combine using an e-cigarette with support from a local stop smoking service."
Britain's National Health Service is now being asked to ensure that e-cigs are available in hospital shops along with other nicotine replacement products like gum and lozenges.
"We hope this report will... encourage the 40 percent of smokers who've failed to quit but never tried vaping to go ahead and switch" said Action on Smoking and Health.
